MUSIC-LOVING, PARTY-GOING

DESIGNER SHOE LOVER

The blistering cold front, projected by Tipper Brown on Fox Five News, blusters through the sleeping neighborhoods, leaving thick winds and weightless falling snow. Jazmine wakes up to the smell of roasted beans brewing in the Keurig coffee maker downstairs in the kitchen. She jumps up in a haste trying to make sense of her surroundings. She notices Dylan sleeping on the bed with her robe on. Jazmine grabs the newspaper ad once more and reassures herself that moving out is the best thing for Dylan.

The sound of Carmen’s voice shakes Dylan out of her sleep. She stretches and yawns. She sits up and notices Jazmine lying on the floor with her legs in the air.

“Crazy, what the hell are you doing?”

Jazmine lifts her head up.

“I am semi exercising. A few leg lifts before the morning strut deployment works well for my figure.”

The girls stare each other and then burst out laughing.

“Jaz, I’ve missed you. I’m glad you came over last night. You’re the sister I should’ve had.”

Jazmine gives Dylan a hug and smiles. She speaks softly.

“I know D...don’t get so sappy. Let’s get this show on the road. Call about the ad in the paper.”

Dylan stands up and walks to her bathroom. She washes her face and brushes her teeth. When she returns to her indented space on her bed, her cell phone chimes off a text message alert.

Jazmine sits up straight.

“Who is it? Is it Mr. Rob?

Dylan says with frustration,

“His name is Big Rob...not mister. He is not my master.”

Jazmine frowns at her.

Dylan reads the screen of her cell phone out loud.

“Look, you cunt...my patience is running low. Make the call, meet your roommate, and get out from under that psycho roof. You have three days. Noon today, meet me at Club Red. You’ll be starting your new job.”

Dylan is frozen. Jazmine grabs the phone and reads the message for herself.

“Yo...dude is psycho. Who does he think he is? I think we need to go to your father.”

Dylan’s shell is frozen. Her eyes darken and her lashes bat sporadically. Demi awakes. She stands up and stretches. She notices Jazmine sitting on the floor staring at her.

“Awwwwe shit...the flower child is here to visit.”

Jazmine is surprised my Demi’s appearance. She holds her cell phone up and snaps a picture of Demi and says excitedly,

“OMG, Demi. I can’t believe it.”

Demi looks at Jazmine and her eyes widen.

“Well believe it, baby. I couldn’t take all the fucking crocodile tears. Lil’ Ms. Goodie Princess is too weak. Gotta land this plane before the infamous crash landing.”

Demi looks at the bathrobe and laughs.

“What is she doing to this body? I know she’s not taking fashion tips from Carmen.”

Jazmine laughs out loud.

“Yo...you are funny as shit. I can’t stop laughing.”

Demi looks around. She grabs the phone from Jazmine.

“Is this what got her panties in a bunch? I can handle this fucker. Let’s call this chick in the newspaper first. I can play by his rules, ‘cause a bitch is trying to get that dick again.
